With all the doom and gloom that is being spread continually from our leaders on the news, you would think we are just on the brink. Don’t get my wrong, I know it is bad, I myself have been out of work for 10 months now, pretty tough making your mortgage payment with no funds, but that’s another story.
Here is the breakdown as I see it (maybe I am just trying to reassure myself that I won’t be unemployed and homeless by the end of the first quarter 2009) with unemployment numbers raising, the reality is even at 10%, that would mean for every 100 people, 10 are out of work. Although that is not good, it is not terrible. My father keeps reminding me that even during the depression, people were working and some even moving ahead, you just have to stay focused on moving forward.
For those of you receiving unemployment benefits, the federal government passed extensions and most will be eligible. You can go to www.edd.gov, and select your state to find specific state eligibilty requirements.
From a former staffing agency manager (me) networking is the best way for you to attain your next position. Join your local chamber of commerce, call your friends, their friends, family, neighbors, this is not a time to be shy. Extend yourself and you may just be surprised.
Bottom line, if you are ready this, you are breathing air, that makes this a good day =)
Good luck to us all, it will be the great people of this country that turn things around, not politicians.
