What a way to spend a Sunday. It was good for the soul =)
What a way to spend a Sunday. It was good for the soul =)
Well, I have heard about facebook like everyone else, but to date, had not joined the community.
So this past Sunday, I joined and within 4 hours had reconnected with close to 40 friends from high school. So I started thinking, 40 people who are employed, know people who are employed, you see where I am going with this?
Well, just since Sunday, I have already been directed to or introduced to 7 employers and have submitted my resume. Remember the old commerical (okay I am dating myself again, but it aired in the late 70’s or early 80’s) the faberge shampoo commerical, they told two friends, then they told two friends and so on and so on. Well, it does seem to be working and it is yet another avenue to get yourself (resume) out there.
So go ahead, be bold and just do it. GOOD LUCK =)
A good friend is something that not even the economy can bring down. Through good times and bad, they are always there. So here is to the people in your life that keep you grounded and smiling =)
As many of you know, I have been unemployed for going on a year now, but to date have not been able to secure employment.
I have been looking into ways to make money from home, and think I may have found a way to do so.
Many site make claims that you can begin earning $$$$$, lots of it right away. The thing I like the most about this site, is it is straight forward, doesn’t make unreal promises and most importantly, it offers you knowlege and the opportunity to learn more to improve yourself.
So good luck, I am going to give it a shot, I have nothing to loose and everything to gain…….KNOWLEDGE =)

And so it goes, and so it goes =)
“Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
“A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.
“Q. Where will the government get this money?
“A. From taxpayers.
“Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
“A. No, they are borrowing it from China. Your children are expected to repay the Chinese.
“Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
“A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.
“Q. But isn’t that stimulating the economy of China?
“A. Shut up.”
Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the US economy by spending your stimulus check wisely:
If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.
If you spend it on gasoline it will go to Hugo Chavez, the Arabs and Al Queda
If you purchase a computer it will go to Taiwan.
If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, Chile, and Guatemala.
If you buy a car it will go to Japan and Korea.
If you purchase prescription drugs it will go to India
If you purchase heroin it will go to the Taliban in Afghanistan
If you give it to a charitable cause, it will go to Nigeria.
And none of it will help the American economy.
We need to keep that money here in America. You can keep the money in America by spending it at yard sales, going to a baseball game, or spend it on prostitutes, beer (domestic ONLY), or tattoos, since those are the only businesses still in the US.
If you are 30 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!
When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears
with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking Twenty-five miles to school every morning
Yadda, yadda, yadda
And I remember promising myself that when I grew up,
there was no way in hell I was going to lay
a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it
and how easy they’ve got it!
But now that I’m over the ripe old age of
thirty, I can’t help but look around and notice the youth of today.
You’ve got it so easy! I mean, compared to my
childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!
And I hate to say it but you kids today
don’t know how good you’ve got it!
I mean, when I was a kid we didn’t have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, We had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!!
There was no email!! We had to actually write
somebody a letter, with a pen!
Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there! Stamps were 10 cents!
Child Protective Services didn’t care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our ass! No where was safe!
There were no MP3′ s or Napsters! You wanted to
steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!
Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ’d usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!
There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We’d play our favorite tape and “eject” it when finished and the tape would come undone.
We didn’t have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you
were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that’s it!
And we didn’t have fancy Caller ID either!
When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your Bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn’t know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!
We didn’t have any fancy Sony Playstation video
games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like ‘Space Invaders’ and ‘asteroids’. Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen forever!
And you could never win. The game just kept getting
harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!
You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel! There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I’m saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled
And we didn’t have microwaves, if we wanted to heat
something up we had to use the stove … Imagine that!
That’s exactly what I’m talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You’re spoiled. You guys wouldn’t have lasted
five minutes back in 1980 or before!
The over 30 Crowd
What are they doing ?????????
This graphic was part of the Glenn Beck show today ( it airs from 2pm-3pm on Fox News each day West Coast time) if you missed it, you can go to his website and see the presentation www.foxnews.com/glennbeck Our country went through 2 World Wars, Vietnam, The Great Depression and the government never found the need to print more money.
I remember when I was young ( I am talking like 8 or 9) I would ask my dad why when times got tough, we couldn’t just print more money. Well, it seems my dad knows more then our previous or current administration. Don’t they know by doing what they are doing, we are continuing the decline of the dollar. Leaders from around the world are urging each other to stop accepting the dollar !!!!!!
They just passed another stimulus package, this one worth $819 Billion, yes people, that is with a B.
I think it is time, we the people, contact our local legislators and voice our opinions. It is us, our children, our grandchildren that will pay the price. WE MUST DO SOMETHING SOON !!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, I went to my accountant today to get my taxes done. Well, let me back up. Two days ago, I received a 1099G, this is the amount of your state tax refund from the prior year. They are “so nice” to send this to you, you know why? So that they can make you claim it as income and they can tax you again. Wow, it was bad enough the first time around, but the second, well I was not happy. It gets better……
So we continue on, and my accountant reminded me that since California is in such dire straights due to our budget problems, “YOU KNOW THEY WILL BE ISSUING I.O.U’S FOR TAX RETURNS” Are you freakin kidding me. Now, last time I checked, if we don’t pay our taxes on time, we are charged interest daily, and it adds up fast. Does it work they same when they owe us, when they are using our money to pay their bills, since they couldn’t get a budget passed? Well the answer my friends is NO! We will get our money when they decide they can afford to give it to us, and then remember they will be kind enough to send you that 1099G again next year so they can tax you again.
We seriously need a revision to our tax laws, I’m calling OBAMA! Oh wait, I’ll call Timothy Geithner, he is really good with taxes =)
I watched, and I mean I watched it all. I set my alarm for 5am and didn’t stop watching until 9pm. Go ahead, you can say it, dork, or hello have you ever heard of tivo? Well, I don’t have tivo and I didn’t want to miss any of history in the making.
It was inspiring, tearful and it made me believe that we, we the people, really can make a difference. So if you are wondering what you can do, President Obama is a step ahead of you, go to: www.usaservice.org there you can find out all the different voluteer opportunities that are available in your area.
Start today, this country of ours is in really bad shape, but one by one, we really can make a difference =)
Although I did not vote for Obama, I look forward to the new presidency and the change that it is sure to bring.
I am excited for all the inaugural festivities and look forward to experiencing history in the making.
I am surprised to see how emotional I am. Even when the news does a quick blurb on what is to come, I find my eyes welling up and that lump forming in my throat. No matter who you voted for, this is a very historic and exciting time and I can’t wait for tomorrow.
So, I was at the doctors office today and then subsequently the pharmacy, and I can’t begin to tell you my amazement at how kids, I mean really small kids, speak and act toward their parents. “I don’t like you, I am not listening to you” and the parents replied with “You don’t want me to start counting, please stop doing that (seven or eight times)” and we wonder why the youth of today is so disrespectful to their elders.
Well, here is my summary; I am a product of the 70’s and 80″s (yeah I know they rocked ! ) when we grew up, our parents told us one time and one time only to stop something and we listened. How many times did mom do the hirky jerky reaching every which way she could in the green station wagon, packed full of kids not seat belted in, to give you a good one. That’s all it took was one good swat or the “look” and we knew we better shape up or we would get “our butts blistered” Maybe it is time to return to yester year??????????????
I am a single mother of a now 16 year old daughter. I have to be honest and admit that when her father left (she was 1 and I didn’t have this realization until many years later) I feel for the self emposed guilt trip and gave in way more than I should have. I can speak from experience and a little regret, that it does come back to bite you and bite you hard. So stand your ground and enforce your rules today.
So do yourself a favor, be strict, be demanding, be a little scary( at least in their eyes, a little fear went a long way when I was young) expect greatness from them, don’t buy them every new gadget that comes out just because their friends have one, snoop through their emails, voicemails, text messages, who is paying for all their technology freedom anyway? THAT’S RIGHT PARENTS, YOU ARE !
Our children are the future, it is our jobs to get them headed in the right direction. So start your snooping now, you may be surprised to find out what your kids are up to.
HAPPY HUNTING AND PARENTING =)
I believe in angels
Just when you think you are all alone, then someone walks into your life, someone you don’t even know, someone that doesn’t owe you anything, and yet they give you everything……..they give you their time and kindness.
As most of you know, I have been out of work for almost a year now. Lately, I widened my search area and started asking / telling people, okay, let’s be honest, I was and am telling anyone who will listen…HEY I NEED A JOB !!!!! So in talking with one of my friends, she referred me to one of her friends, now that is what I call networking, anyway, back to the story, this friend, or angel as I like to call her, her real name is April, contacted me this week. Then, she took one step further, she made time for me, today, on Saturday, during her busy life to give me some assistance and guidance.
Well, after 1 1/2 hours I walked away with knowledge, belief in myself and my abilities, but most of all, I walked away with a renewed sense of belief in the human spirit and our ability to lend a helping hand. I believe April said it best, we are all put here to help one another, to assist when we can and even when we don’t think we can, you never the know the difference you can make in a persons life.
So here is my challenge for all of you: SMILE AT SOMEONE, OPEN THE DOOR FOR A STRANGER, OFFER TO PUMP SOMEONE’S GAS FOR THEM, HEY GO BIG AND MAYBE EVEN PAY FOR THEIR TANK OF GAS, HELP YOUR FAMILY, FRIEND, OR THAT STRANGER THAT JUST LOOKS LIKE THEY NEED YOU TODAY, DO IT I KNOW YOU WILL FEEL BETTER.
So here it is the first “real” day of the year, and where do I find myself? On the computer job searching. Searching every site I can get my hands on. Putting my resume out there just screaming to everyone, hello I am here and ready for work. More than ready to work.
I believe everything happens for a reason, but now that I am approaching almost 11 months of unemployment, I sit here and think, what is the lesson I am suppose to be learning? I guess time will really tell me the answer to that.
I know that I am very skilled and a true asset to any company, now I just have to narrow down the list and target/market myself and help that company hire their newest employee.
So here’s to thinking positive and believing in myself =)
Have fun, be safe and may 2009 bring you all you need =)
I have not been feeling well lately, so that is the reason for no posts. I will get back to it once I am on my feet. Have a safe and Happy New Year!
It happens to the best of us =)
There is only a week left in the year, so have a cookie, have that drink and get your eat on and don’t feel guilty.
My father’s tree
Yes, he decorated it all by himself. All 3000 lights and the beautiful angel tree topper in honor of my departed mother.
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year =)
My brothers view from his home in Maui…..rough huh?
Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaiian for Merry Christmas. My brother Steve, who owns his own business on the island (note the web address on the photo) sent me this beautiful photo. It is one of many, visit his website and see for yourself.
I remember the first Christmas he was on the island, he sent me a photo of Santa in a hawaiian print shirt and shorts hanging ten on the beach. Puts things in perspective when you have Chicago at -9, yikes, I’ll take Maui anyday.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL !!!!!
Follow this link above to a Fox News article that I read today. It is unimaginable that this is going on in today’s world. I guess I should take into consideration that it is in another country, and that has much different laws and social acceptability than the United States of America.
Hey, did I metion how thankful I am to live in a country that encourages each person, male or female, to be the best they can be. It is up to us, and that is the beautiful part of living in this great country. God bless America !!!!!
Have you seen this new game? It is sweeping the nation. Check it out at http://www.sockandawe.com
Like he hasn’t been a disgrace for the past 8 years, now we can have people world wide joining the game of throwing shoes at the President of the United States. Hurry up January 20, 2009 !
My sister’s house in Seattle
We definately got snow this week here in Southern California, but nothing compared to Seattle. Just take a look. My sister sent me this photo of her house. Their street is a winter wonderland for the kids on it, they have hills everywhere and it makes for a great ride. Believe me, I have done it.
I think we all knew, but now this sweet child can be layed to rest in proper fashion. It was just announced that the remains found in the wooded area in Florida, in fact are those of Caylee Marie Anthony.
It is unimaginable what could have happened to this child, and what monster could have perpitrated this horrible crime, but at least now her family can begin the long process of acceptance and grieving.
My thoughts and prayers go out to those family members and friends that loved and cherished Caylee.
The song goes, “It never rains in California”, but rain it did this week. This is a shot from outside my front door this afternoon, once the rained stopped and you look north, this is what you see.
I couldn’t help myself, so like a child on Christmas, I went up the first chance I could. It was beautiful and the snow is calling me to just come and ski, and so ski I will, hopefully this weekend.
Living in Southern California, we pray for rain, but once it comes, people loose all sense of how to drive. So, I decided to let me dog drive, he couldn’t do any worse then the people I encounter on the road.
I have lived on the East Coast, and there we actually get rain. It rains so hard that you can’t see two feet in front of you. The rain in So Cal doesn’t even come close.
So fellow drivers, slow down, regain your common sense and just drive, you will survive, I promise =)
So as I mentioned the other day, I met a few new friends and they were kind enough to refer my to several business contacts.
I just spoke with, and set up a meeting for this Thursday at 8:30am. In reviewing my work history, the person I was speaking with noted my tenure in Sacramento and asked if I knew a specific person. To my surprise, I not only knew them, but she was my mentor and the most awesome person I ever worked for.
Now, keeping in mind, I have not seen, worked with or spoken to this person since 1999, should she be contacted for a reference, I would hope and do believe it will be a good one.
Since 1999, I have lived in Atlanta, Roseville, Brea, Alta Loma and am heading back to Brea. It really is a small world after all !!!
So it does make this poor white girl feel a little better to know that even some of our most educated, informed, successful and wealthy fellow citizens could get dooped by this character.
My heart does go out to them, no matter how much money you have or don’t have, being swindled by this greedy, self absorbed idiot, had to hurt.
A lesson learn, check out your investment opportunities, no matter who it is offering you “a great deal”
Better luck next time !!!
John Smith started the day early having set his alarm
Someone once told me that there is always a silver lining in every dark cloud. I have believed it, and now I think I know it.
I have been in my current city for 3 1/2 years. I have never really adapted or felt like this was home or even somewhere I wanted to call home. Don’t get me wrong, Alta Loma, CA is a beautiful, family oriented city, but it has just never worked for me. Each time I would drive toward or even near my previous hometown of Brea, CA, I would find a certain peace come over me.
Well, last night I went to a girlfriends birthday bash, in Brea, and it finally hit me. This is where I belong.
So back to the silver lining, I do believe that you can control, or at least assist in the navigation of your destiny. Maybe somewhere deep inside I never wanted to stay in this new city and longed for my return to the city I call home. So while at my friends bash last (remember, I have been unemployed for 10 months) I met some wonderful people who offered to help me with my job search. I have already sent them my resume and thank you emails.
I am inspired and excited about returning home. I know this is where I belong . With hard work and dedication, I, along with me daughter and dog will return to what was for us a great place to call home.
With all the doom and gloom that is being spread continually from our leaders on the news, you would think we are just on the brink. Don’t get my wrong, I know it is bad, I myself have been out of work for 10 months now, pretty tough making your mortgage payment with no funds, but that’s another story.
Here is the breakdown as I see it (maybe I am just trying to reassure myself that I won’t be unemployed and homeless by the end of the first quarter 2009) with unemployment numbers raising, the reality is even at 10%, that would mean for every 100 people, 10 are out of work. Although that is not good, it is not terrible. My father keeps reminding me that even during the depression, people were working and some even moving ahead, you just have to stay focused on moving forward.
For those of you receiving unemployment benefits, the federal government passed extensions and most will be eligible. You can go to www.edd.gov, and select your state to find specific state eligibilty requirements.
From a former staffing agency manager (me) networking is the best way for you to attain your next position. Join your local chamber of commerce, call your friends, their friends, family, neighbors, this is not a time to be shy. Extend yourself and you may just be surprised.
Bottom line, if you are ready this, you are breathing air, that makes this a good day =)
Good luck to us all, it will be the great people of this country that turn things around, not politicians.
Is anyone else having placement problems with their most recent blog posts? I am new at this so it could just be me, but when I do a new post it doesn’t go to the top of my page. Any suggestions or ideas???
So it seems that maybe and finally this child can rest in peace. I pray that her grandparents have had no involvement and can put her to rest and start the long healing process.
I have followed this story since June 2008 and my heart breaks with each passing day. I can not understand how you can harm any human being, not to mention an innocent child. May she rest in peace and may her mother rot in hell where she belongs.
Well I have embarked on twitter.com, and I must say I am really enjoying it. I have met several people with some great information and it is nice to just chat as well.
Being new, I am still in the “dork” catagory when it comes to communicating. I send someone something and not really sure how I did it but somehow they mysteriously respond and on and on it goes, so not bad.
Well, as someone that has been unemployed going on 8 months, have a mortgage you wouldn’t write home about and raising a teenage daugher by myself, can you say…….HURRY UP ELECTIONS! On that note, you would think that out of 303.8 million people living in the United States, our choice(s) would be more diverse, but this is where we are so………………….MAKE SURE TO GET OUT AND HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD. VOTE ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 4TH. If you don’t vote, your voice is silenced.
Well, I must say that as I look and read all the blogs out there, I really need to up my game, at this point I am still very lame at this, but eager to learn.
Here’s to learning!!!
Well, I finally made it, I have created my first blog entry. I am new at this so I will be feeling my way around and look forward it. Have a great weekend =)
